Coffee to a Whole 'Notha Level
I'll admit it, I've been a coffee lover since I was fifteen-years-old, working my first job as a barista at "Dancing Goats Cafe" in a town of 30,000 college students. In an atmosphere of free-thinkers, late-night partiers and intellectuals, I soon joined the band wagon of specialty coffee lovers. Never did I think that this fascination and "addiction" to coffee would lead me to discover all sorts of finely crafted coffees from various parts of the world.
Recently, I traveled to San Francisco and was introduced to two more single-origin beans that take the word "coffee" to a whole 'notha level!
The first of my new discoveries was called Blue Bottle Coffee Company, that was founded by James Freeman in Oakland, California in the early 2000s. The company focuses on single-origin beans. They are notable for their dedication to coffee preparation, as expressed in their extensive brewing guides. One of my favorite Blue Bottle Coffees is called 17ft Ceiling. Just the aroma itself is enough to turn any frown upside down!
The second delicious discovery came from Sightglass Coffee Company, which was founded in 2009 by two brothers--Justin and Jerad Morrison. Starting with an old, rickety coffee cart in the heart of San Francisco, the Morrison Brothers believed that small production methods allowed them to scrutinize and perfect their coffee process. And that attaining a perfect roast is an intuition, a smell, a sound, a slight change in color— it’s about careful attention to detail that comes through in every cup. My favorite Sightglass roast is called Mulish Station, Shakisso and there is no other coffee I have ever tasted that gives you a bold, clean taste with the most overtones of strawberry and panela sweetness. Delicious!
