The Small Stuff
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?” Luke 16:10-12
God doesn’t look for people who have all the best capabilities, talents and resources to use for His plans and good work. In fact, God specializes in using the least capable, under qualified people to show more of His love and supernatural power to the world. Most of all, God looks for trustworthy people to entrust His greatest gifts and plans to.
Jesus used a parable, or fictional story, to tell the people of Israel about a man who managed a business for another man and schemed with his own friends to change the debts that they owed to the business owner. The business manager didn’t want to lose his job or lose his friends, but in the end he lost his integrity.
This story has many subtleties, but the most profound message is that God loves to bless and empower people who know how to handle the small stuff in life. Whether it’s showing up to school or work on time, taking care of the people God has placed in your life or using your money wisely, God loves to give trustworthy people more opportunities to be faithful and trustworthy.
Be faithful with the small stuff and He will give you more influence as you grow in knowing Him and His good plan for your life.
