The Los Angeles Natural History Museum became a wonderful retreat for our family the past two years as it would allow us to escape from our busy schedules and the hectic traffic of L.A., and explore new (and ancient) worlds! With exhibits of dinosaurs, Egyptian mummies, snakes, butterly gardens, insect habitats and the amazing history of Los Angeles, this Natural History Museum sparks the interest and fascination of both kids and adults.
Two of our favorite exhibits are the Dinosaur Encounter and the Egyptian Mummy World.
Mummies, Secrets of the Tomb is a special exhibit originatin from Chicago and was recently brought to LA Natural History Museum to show a rare, up-close look at a selection of 20 mummies, many of which have never been on public display, originating from ancient Egypt and Peru, and from many historic ages and backgrounds. This exhibition reveals these people’s burial secrets, new details about their lives, and the societies they lived in.
***The Mummies exhibit does cost an extra $10 per person, but it is totally worth it!
The new Dinosaur Hall is one of the most extraordinary dinosaur exhibits in the world, and the premier dinosaur experience in the western United States. Inside are more than 300 real fossils, and 20 complete dinosaurs and ancient sea creatures.
Watch as dinosaurs come to life! Our realistic T. rex and Triceratops large-scale puppets capture the imaginations of audiences in performances each week. Thanks to the expertise of NHM's paleontologists and puppeteers, you can experience how these prehistoric animals lived. Our team of performance artists will guide you back in time to better understand dinosaur anatomy, possible behavior and movement.
FREE with Museum Admission.
On weekends and holidays, we recommend you arrive early to this popular show. Most seating is on the floor and is first-come, first-served.
Presentations depict realistic dinosaurs and may be frightening for very small children.
